Middle school students are eligible to join the Navy League Cadets, and high school students are eligible to join the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets. Both must be in good academic standing and of good moral character. No person will be subjected to discrimination at any time on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or national origin.
The Lone Sailor Division meets one weekend per month, Saturday and Sunday, during the school year. Training away from home is conducted during school vacation periods.
Enrollment fees begin at $300 for first year cadets, and $200 annually to renew. Uniform fees vary from $200 to $400 in the first year. Advanced training costs are typically $150 to $175 per week, and include instruction, room, and board. Scholarships are available to cadets with financial need.
Cadets are expected to maintain an 85% attendance rate of monthly drill weekends, complete online coursework, participate in community service, and pass a physical readiness test (PRT) twice per year. Cadets will also be asked to turn in their school report cards to ensure that they are maintaining good grades outside of the program. Advanced trainings are optional, but some may be required for certain ranks.
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), it is the policy of the Sea Cadets that no qualified person will be excluded from participation in, denied the benefit of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination by the USNSCC simply because that person has a disability. The Sea Cadets will grant reasonable accommodations where necessary to permit full participation.
Safety is our number one priority. All of our volunteers undergo regular background checks and cadets are under adult supervision throughout training.
No. Membership in the NSCC and NLCC allows youth to sample military life with no obligation to join the military. Should cadets decide to enlist in the military, their training may allow them to enlist at an advanced pay grade.
